How to make your own Laundry Detergent

It makes me crazy that we pay more money for fewer ingredients. Today, I am referring to laundry detergent. There are some very expensive ones on the shelves and they really don’t clean that well. They mask what they leave behind and poison us and our environment in doing so. If you actually read the ingredients on the bottle, can you pronounce everything and do you know what it is you are reading? I don’t. The few ingredients I did look up had warnings and disclaimers that we know to avoid. So why put it on our bodies and breathe it in? Because we are told it smells good, it is easy to use, it makes your clothes cleaner, and you are told you can’t live without it. That you need to spend 25 cents per load of laundry to be clean. What if I told you something different? Would you believe me? Would you question me or would you take my word like so many of us do when we see a commercial or marketing ad that tells us they have the best thing ever. Well, I don’t know if I have the best thing ever, but I know it works. I know it’s much less expensive, and it’s safer for us and our environment. Here is a very simple way to only spend 7 cents per load of laundry. Make it yourself. It’s easy and fast.

To make your own laundry detergent at home is easy and inexpensive.

Ingredients:

1 cup Borax

1 cup Super Washing Soda

1 Bar shaved/grated soap; Fels-Naptha, Dr. Bonners, Ivory, Homemade

¼ cup Baking Soda- optional, I add some for those stinky sports socks.

Mix together for a couple of minutes in a bowl. You can even put it in a blender to create a finer powder that will dissolve easier in your washer. Store in a container that you can seal or close tightly. I use an old canning jar. I also use an old measuring cup dedicated to just my detergent. I wouldn’t want to accidently mix that in with my food. Use ⅛ cup to ¼ cup per load depending on how large your load of wash is and how soiledit is. The cost per load is approximately 7¢.

This detergent is safe to use in HE washers. It has low suds and that’s what HE washers require.
